NHL Game Preview: Bruins @ Capitals

Posted February 5th, 2012 by

The Washington Capitals (27-20-4) will face the Boston Bruins (32-16-2) back at home. The Bruins are coming in 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.

Coming off of a 3-0 victory in Montreal Saturday afternoon, the Capitals will be looking to start a new winning streak by taking advantage of a Bruins team that is 4-5-1 in their last 10 games after losing to the Penguins, 2-1. In the first meeting between the two, Washington won, 5-3, in an exciting, hard-fought battle on home ice just before the All-Star break. It was one of the Caps’ better performances this year, as everyone showed up. With Alex Ovechkin back from his suspension, the dynamic will be different surrounding this game and so audiences will be looking to see if this showing will compare to the last one.

Because of the solid performance from yesterday’s game, earning the shutout and winning the last game against the B’s, the Caps will most likely start Tomas Vokoun again. Caps will also look to improve their Super Bowl Sunday 14-3-1 home record.

Once again, I am in a situation where Washington plays a convincing game against the Habs and I’m forced to believe they will someday build on solid wins like that. Both teams will be on back ends of back-to-back games, and the Caps will want to show their home fans what they’ve been missing. As stated in last night’s review, the Caps have the same amount of wins now (27) as they did at the same point (51 games) last season. Also, Ovechkin wasn’t around too much the last game. Look for that to change today.
