Reds Continue Winning Ways in Atlanta, 3-1

It could be said that the Atlanta Braves went from Cincinnati’s best friend to their worst enemy on Monday.  Atlanta just finished a weekend sweep of Cincinnati’s biggest rival, the St. Louis Cardinals and now took aim at the second place team in the NL central.  Homer Bailey would have a say in that though, as the Red’s young pitcher threw his best game of the season last night.  Bailey, who many believe is in a make or break contract year, allowed only one run in over six innings of work.  The Braves came into Monday with hot bats and boasted the second most runs scored in the National League, but Bailey did a great job of keeping Atlanta off-balance all night.  The Brave’s only real threat came in the eighth inning when Aroldis Chapman loaded the bases,  but he made quick work of young stud Jason Heyward, to end the threat promptly.

Brandon Phillips, who is an Atlanta native, had a nice homecoming by sparking the only Red’s rally with a towering double off the centerfield wall, that gave Cincinnati the lead for good. It feels good to do something here,” he said. “This was a big win for us.”

Sean Marshall recorded his sixth save of the year and the Reds are now on a two game winning streak.

Player of the Game:  Homer Bailey

Bailey pitched brilliantly and with his team only providing one run of support, he kept Cincinnati in it until the bats finally came alive in the late innings.  Homer has now quietly achieved five quality starts in the back of the Red’s rotation.

The Reds finish up a short series with the Braves tonight at Turner Field in Atlanta.

 Tuesday’s Probable Starters

Johnny Cueto 4-0 (1.12 ERA)

Tim Hudson 1-1 (4.50 ERA)

Tuesday’s matchup should be an extremely low scoring affair with two of the best aces in the National League going toe to toe.  Cueto will also look to improve on his MLB leading starter’s ERA of 1.12.

Rangers Head Coach John Tortorella Has Become The Bobby Knight Of The NHL (Videos)

Posted May 15th, 2012 by

You have to love “Torts” and his no bullsh*t attitude. He expects his players to give their all and when they are done give MORE. It is no surprise, the New York Rangers are on the cusp of their first Stanley Cup Final since 1994.

Just like legenday college hoops coach Bobby Knight, John Tortorella rules with an iron first and deals with the media with an incredibly sharp tongue. Both men were hot heads, but were successful because of their don’t f*ck with me mentalities.

And during their pressers they delivered audio gold.

Here is a quick refresher of Bobby Knight and his epic handling of stupid questions from the media.

See if you can pick up some of the similarities as you view “Torts” Greatest Hits:

NHL Rewind: Rangers Vs. Devils ’94 Eastern Conference Finals (Videos)

Posted May 14th, 2012 by

The Rangers and Devils meet in a re-match of the epic 1994 Eastern Conference Finals that went seven games.  The series had THREE double overtime thrillers which included Stephane Matteau’s winner in Game Three (see video above). The Devils would go on to win Games Four & Five pushing the Rangers to the brink of elimination.

Then came the guarantee from the Captain, Mark Messier prior to Game Six.

The Rangers would win on the road 4-2 pushing the Series to a decisive Game Seven. This contest like the previous six had all the dramatics and excitement, but on a whole new level.

Who on this night would be the hero?

Matteau! Matteau!

Stephane Matteau, who netted just 19 goals between the Blackhawks and Rangers, had two of the BIGGEST goals in New York Rangers history.

The Rangers would go on to win their first Stanley Cup since 1940.

Will history repeat itself? Or will the Devils Martin Brodeur go out on top?

We shall see…..

Strange Hockey Sh*t: Caps Coach Dale Hunter Steps Down, Kings’ Quick Has A Brain Fart (Videos)

Posted May 14th, 2012 by

After taking the Washington Capitals within a whisker of the Eastern Conference Finals, Dale Hunter will NOT return next season.  I guess this the coaching equivalent of this hit:

Hunter loves blindsiding his opponents and now he blindsides the fan base of the Washington Capitals. Why would you change a whole team’s philosophy if you had ZERO intention of returning?

I think the only person who is happy in DC is Alexander Ovechkin.

Jonathan Quick of the L.A. Kings has played unconscious during the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs.  He is currently 9-1 with a ridiculous 1.59 GAA and .947 save percentage in 10 games.  If Quick keeps up this pace, Tim Thomas’ historic run last year will be pedestrian.

However, when you are playing at such a high level, you are going to have a BRAIN FART eventually and he did on this Derek Morris shot.

Good thing Quick got it out of his system now.

PREDICTION: Kings beat Phoenix in Six and win the Cup against the Rangers in Seven. Your Conn Smythe winner, yep you guessed it…..Mr. Quick.

Forget “Ice Girls” who skate around and clean the ice, I want women in bikinis throwing body checks.

Ask and YOU SHALL RECEIVE!

Our prayers have been answered, the Bikini Hockey League AKA BHL is upon us PUCK HEADS!

REJOICE!!

Tulsa, Oklahoma native (HUH?!) Cary Eskridge is the man behind the best idea since well, BIKINIS!!

Here is the Official BHL press release:

Time is Now for Bikini Hockey (F* king A Right! Oh, I added that)

Tulsa, Okla. – The idea of a bikini hockey league came to Tulsan Cary Eskridge back in 2004 when the National Hockey League lockout occurred. The lack of major league hockey left  the media scrambling to fill the void of hockey news and fans looking for other forms of  entertainment. Not a man to sit still, Eskridge started looking for ways to fill the void and that is  when the idea of bikini hockey came to Eskridge’s mind.

But there was not enough time to react and make the dream a reality at that time. So the idea stayed on the back burner waiting for the right time. Well, that time has finally come. Eskridge has an extensive hockey background and feels now is the time to finally breathe life into his long-time dream. Eskridge has a background in video production and has also owned inline hockey leagues on and off for the past 20 years and believes the Bikini Hockey League could bring back the popularity and awareness of inline hockey to the mainstream and introduce new fans to a great sport.

Starting next month, Eskridge will start filming the pilot of a reality TV show that revolves around a bikini hockey league. But many are asking, “why Tulsa?”(YEAH I ASKED THE SAME FRIGGIN’ THING) Why not a larger sports market such as New York or Los Angeles where more fans and potential participants can be reached?

League owner Cary Eskridge feels Tulsa is a good location for many reasons. Tulsa’s central location is one factor. “You just have to look at other major sports that have come to  Tulsa,” said Eskridge.  “One of Tulsa’s biggest events on a national scale is the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals held every year at the QuikTrip Center.  Many thought it would never work hen it started more than 25 years ago and now Tulsa is one of the biggest reasons that event works here.”

Eskridge has spent a lifetime promoting hockey in the Tulsa area and knows this market. Tulsa’s central location will reduce travel time and more importantly reduce production costs that would be enormous in major markets. Professional hockey has been played in Tulsa since 1928 and is a big part of Tulsa’s sports history. Eskridge is ready for Tulsa to take the next step.

Cary Eskridge could be considered the most impactful pioneer for the game of hockey since Lord Stanley himself!

Ok, who is organizing the road trip to Tulsa for the casting call?
